TRAINING
There are many ways to learn EFT. However, if you want to use it in your therapy or coaching practice and you want to be able to get insurance to cover you to do so in the UK, you really need to train in workshops where you can see live demonstrations, practice with others, get feedback from your trainer, and have answers to all your questions.
The masters all have workshop programmes details of which you can find if you click here and then click on the picture of the individual master whose training you are interested in.
The Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Therapy (AAMET) sets standards and a syllabus for workshops. The AAMET is the lead body for energy therapy regulation and standards in the UK, and increasingly round the world. If you want to be a member and be eligible to be listed as such on the AAMET website, you need to be trained by an AAMET-approved trainer.
The AAMET’s syllabus is based on the one originally devised by EFT Founder Gary Craig,.
All the UK EFT Masters are AAMET-approved trainers who have studied deeply Gary Craig’s work in person and on DVD. We have been examined by Gary both on our theoretical knowledge of EFT and by demonstrating client work to him. Some of us also had the opportunity to train with Gary for four days in a small group in his home.
Understanding the levels
There are three levels of EFT training. They are:
Introduction (Level 1) - Discovering EFT
This is the course for people new to EFT or who have learned EFT through reading the EFT manual or other books, or watching DVDs and now want to experience working with other people in a group and having the opportunity to watch live demonstrations and to have their questions answered. It is both for people who want to learn EFT to use it for themselves and for those who intend to continue with their training to practitioner level. No previous experience either of therapy or of EFT is required to attend a Level 1 training.
On an introductory course, expect to learn where EFT comes from, the tapping points, what psychological reversal is, about aspects, testing and calibrating, how you know what words to use, what to do when EFT is not working, handling excessive intensity, how to detach the emotions from specific negative memories with the movie technique, working with physical pains, and with cravings.
Practitioner (Level 2) – Working with EFT
People who have done an approved Introductory workshop are eligible to do a practitioner workshop. On it you will learn how we acquire and are run by our inner beliefs, how to deal with the tailenders that reflect our often unrecognized inner beliefs that sabotage affirmations and change, additional tapping points, how to work more gently, the detective work that helps us to get to core issues, how emotional causes have physical consequences, how to work with pain and physical discomfort at a more sophisticated level, emotional drivers of physical problems and addictive behaviours, more ways to test, working on the telephone, working with groups.
This is both for people who want to deepen their understanding of the power of tapping and for therapists who want to take tapping into their practices.
Advanced practitioner (Level 3) – Working with EFT
This covers everything you need to know and have not already covered on the previous levels to bring your work to a more sophisticated and accomplished level. You will learn more about working with intuition, about pre-framing and reframing, about working with more difficult clients and problems. A large supervisory element will be involved in this level. It is for people who want to be the very best they can be.
Additional requirements
People who do practitioner training receive an attendance certificate at the end of the second day. This becomes an AAMET Practitioner Certificate only after the submission of at least three case studies (some trainers require more) illustrating a satisfactory level of competence in working with EFT. One of them must be working with themselves. There is also a detailed multiple choice examination to pass.
At least three further case studies are also required after the Advanced Practitioner training.
As well, all AAMET practitioners have to agree to do and log 30 hours CPD (continuing professional development) a year and to have 12 hours a year group mentoring with others at their own EFT level or above or six hours individual mentoring. For further details on CPD click here and about mentoring click here.
